A national passport is the passport of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This passport is a travel document for persons with the Dutch nationality. The holder can travel with it worldwide.
Residents of Sint Maarten with the Dutch nationality can apply for a national passport at the Civil Registry department of Sint Maarten, also known as Census Office. Residents of Sint Maarten with the Dutch nationality who require a second passport for work can apply for this passport at the Cabinet of the Governor of Sint Maarten.
In certain cases, non-residents of Sint Maarten with the Dutch nationality can apply for a new passport at the Cabinet of the Governor of Sint Maarten. For example, if their passport has expired or is about to expire, or if the passport is damaged, stolen, or missing. This applies to, among others:
- Dutch interns;
- Dutch sailors;
- Dutch nationals traveling the world;
- Dutch nationals on Sint Maarten who are unable to register with the Civil Registry department while awaiting their residence permit;
- Dutch nationals residing in Saint Martin (French side) or in neighboring countries where there is no Dutch representation, such as Anguilla, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Lucia.
Dutch nationals registered with a Dutch municipality must apply for a passport in their own municipality.
Dutch nationals living outside the Kingdom of the Netherlands can apply for their passport at the Dutch diplomatic or consular representation in the country where they reside. When they are temporarily in the Netherlands, they can also make an appointment at a municipality that issues travel documents to Dutch nationals living abroad. More information can be found on this page of the Dutch Government.

Application procedure
Applying for a passport should always be done in person. Children must also be present in person if a passport is applied for on their behalf.
In practice, the application process for a national passport takes four to eight weeks. The applicant is informed when the passport can be collected from the Cabinet of the Governor. If the applicant does not collect the passport within three months, it will be permanently destroyed by the Cabinet of the Governor of Sint Maarten. In that case, the applicant must reapply for the passport and pay the fees again.
The Cabinet of the Governor of Sint Maarten is not liable if a trip cannot proceed due to not receiving a new passport in time. It is therefore advised not to book a ticket before the new passport has been received.
