The Governor of Sint Maarten is the head of the government of Sint Maarten. He also represents the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Sint Maarten.
If the Governor is on leave or abroad, the Acting Governor assumes his role. This also happens when the Governor is temporarily unable to work or resigns before the end of his term.
The Kingdom government appoints the Governor and Acting Governor for six years by Royal Decree. After that, they may be reappointed once for another six years.
