On November 8, 2023, Her Excellency E. (Emiko) Bird-Lake was appointed Acting Governor of Sint Maarten by Royal Decree for a term of six years.
Acting Governor Bird-Lake
This happened on the advice of the Council of Ministers of Sint Maarten, with approval from the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
On December 1, 2023, she officially assumed office during a solemn meeting of the Parliament of Sint Maarten. Governor Baly was also present.

Mrs. Bird-Lake is a cardiologist at the Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) and at Saba Cares. She is also a coordinator of the intensive care unit and the first aid department of the Sint Maarten Medical Center. In addition, she is chairperson of the Medical Ethics Committee, a member of the Council for Public Health, and a board member and medical advisor of the Sint Maarten Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Mrs. Bird-Lake studied at the University of Leiden and completed her specialization as a cardiologist in Amsterdam at the Vrije Universiteit Medisch Centrum (VUMC).
