Distinguishing Flag

The High Council of Nobility provided advice on the design of the distinguishing flag. The Royal Decree entered into force on October 10, 2010. At that time, Sint Maarten acquired the status of a country within the Kingdom, and the first Governor of Sint Maarten took office.

The Royal Decree contains a description of the distinguishing flag of the Governor of Sint Maarten. It reads as follows (translated from the official Dutch description):

A rectangular flag, the length of which is in a ratio of 3:2 to the height, with a red, a white, and a blue stripe in the colors of the Dutch flag adjoining at the top and bottom, each with a width equal to one twelfth (1/12) of that of the flag. The top and bottom three stripes are separated by a white stripe, upon which a circular area with a diameter of five twelfths of the height of the flag is placed in the center. The circular area is azure blue, bordered in orange, and charged with a white courthouse. The colors in the circular area are rendered in the colors of the coat of arms of Sint Maarten.

When the Governor is present, the distinguishing flag is displayed together with the Sint Maarten flag and the Kingdom flag at the Cabinet of the Governor of Sint Maarten. When the Governor uses the official car, the driver also displays a small version of the distinguishing flag on it.

When the Governor is abroad, the distinguishing flag is lowered.
